As a relative newbie who has shopped online until the past few
months I would like to ask is it the intention of the creatures who send
out
spam to so clog up the system that online commerce is effectively
destroyed?
Until several months ago I and several people I know regularly
shopped online but wouldn't dream of doing so now due to the problem of
identifying valid order confirmations from amongst the mass of junk.
Are these people stupid, or malicious or a bit of both?

Frank, as a newbie something it might help you to learn is that
cross-posting into multiple groups like you have done often annoys
people. Please only post to the ONE most relevant group.

it helps to have more than one email address.
i use one email address for personal (family etc)
one address for registering to websites, and site i KNOW will spam me
one address for things that im paying for (for invoices, order
confirmation etc)
and so on ...

this REALLY helps me sort out the crap.
